Making and Painting First Nation Hand Drum with Beater Stick

Todd will lead the first part of this unique workshop in making a First Nation drum of 14” diameter with a beater stick. Each participant will be given these high quality materials which have been harvested by Todd: a yellow cedar drum hoop (made by him); an 18 inch diameter drum skin; four 7? lengths of deer skin lacing and one moose antler handle. Todd will give a cultural talk and explanation about the drum before the work begins, including how to care for the drum.
Once the drums have been made, Alan will lead the participants in painting their own drum, beginning with a talk about the importance of imagery and the drum to the culture of our First Nations. Participants will write a narrative unique to their chosen image; this will be of significance to their finished product. This workshop is for participants 16 years and older, no experience necessary.
